75.74 acres in Cumberland Township
The Kings purchased their 75.74-acre farm in Cumberland Township in
2021 and have since cultivated it to provide food for their growing family,
with a substantial vegetable garden and a small flock of chickens. The
primary business, however, is tending to a herd of dairy cows that
produce milk for Organic Valley cooperative. Since purchasing the
property, the Kings have also planted hundreds of trees, which will help
protect a small tributary of Marsh Creek that cuts one of the back fields.
This easement marks a milestone for LCAC as the first Amish familyowned and operated farm to pursue conservation with the Land
Conservancy. We hope this achievement opens the door to preserving
more farmland owned by Amish families who are a growing part of our
rural community.

The King’s farm is northwest of Gettysburg not far from the National
Military Park and just off Route 30. Its open pastures and fields provide
expansive views of the surrounding countryside. Nearby preserved
properties include the 18-acre Oberholtzer farm on Belmont Road, the
105-acre Rarrick farm preserved in 2012, and the 67-acre Marring tree
farm preserved in 2004. Together, these easements—spanning multiple
decades—demonstrate the lasting impact and permanence of land
preservation in this region.
